Executives Hail GlaxoSmithKline as Best Disease Management Program Provider,
Cognet-X, Inc. Reports
FEASTERVILLE,
PA---(April 24, 2001)---GlaxoSmithKline overwhelmingly surpassed all
competitors, offering the best disease/health management programs during the
first quarter of 2001, managed care pharmacy directors told Cognet-X, Inc.
With a score 45%
higher than that of its closest rival, the new GlaxoSmithKline clearly impressed
the influential pharmacy directors surveyed in Cognet-X’s PAR-Rx (Promotional
Assessment Research) Report™.
GlaxoSmithKline
received a score of 405 in the Disease/Health Management Programs assessment of
the PAR-Rx Report. Pfizer, Inc. finished second with 223 points, followed by
Merck & Co., Inc. in third place with 194 points.
The Disease/Health
Management Program assessments are one of six key assessment categories rated
within the PAR-Rx Report. The rankings for these assessments incorporate
Cognet-X’s proprietary Scale of Influence model to assess pharmaceutical
company promotional activity to leading managed care pharmacy directors.
Pharmacy directors
who participated in PAR-Rx during the first 12 weeks of 2001 praised
GlaxoSmithKline for its comprehensive and flexible programs for asthma,
allergies and migraine.
“PAR-Rx
panelists appreciated GlaxoSmithKline’s focus on diseases that are highly
relevant to managed care plans, employers and patients. These initiatives
provide valuable information on all elements of DSM, from design to evaluation
and measurement,” according to Cognet-X’s Director of Market Research
Analysis, Charles M. Maier. “Pharmacy directors also liked the availability of
these programs in various formats—Web sites, hard-copy materials and
disks—and in multiple languages,” Maier added.
Pfizer’s Rhythms
program for depression was singled out for increasing community and employer
awareness of depression, providing education and follow-up for patients and
offering important tools for health care providers. Panelists also mentioned
Pfizer’s programs for hyperlipidemia, diabetes and heart failure.
“Pharmacy
directors told us they found Rhythms and other Pfizer programs to be
well-researched and developed, with a software component that was particularly
useful for tracking outcomes. They also found Pfizer’s clinical staff to be
very knowledgeable and supportive,” Maier said.
Merck received
high marks for its asthma and migraine programs as well as its initiatives for
several cardiovascular conditions, which pharmacy directors said were truly
disease-based and not product-focused. “Panelists told us that Merck was very
effective as assessing a plan’s needs and developing a program that could
compliment existing initiatives or stand alone—and Merck was willing to do so
independent of the formulary status of their products,” Maier said.
