Anti-depressant, Proton Pump Inhibitor Lead First-Half 2003 Promotion to Key Managed Care Executives, Cognet-X Inc. Reports

FEASTERVILLE---(September 9, 2003)-Forest Laboratories Inc.'s Lexapro and TAP Pharmaceuticals Inc.'s Prevacid were the prescription drugs most heavily promoted to managed care pharmacy directors during the first 6 months of 2003, Cognet-X Inc. data show.

Lexapro, the newer of Forest Laboratories two anti-depressants, also emerged as the most promoted brand during the second quarter, according to Cognet-X's PAR-Rx (Promotional Assessment Research) Report™. The PAR-Rx Report tracks pharmaceutical company promotion to pharmacy directors at the most influential managed care organizations and pharmacy benefit management companies in the country.

In addition, second-quarter PAR-Rx data show that TAP's Prevacid generated more contacts to PAR-Rx panelists than did any product other than Lexapro. Prevacid also held the second-place spot during the first quarter of the year.

Strattera, Eli Lilly & Co.'s Attention Deficit/Hyperactivity Disorder (ADHD) product, which launched in the first quarter, placed third in terms of total first-half promotion. Strattera generated only one contact less than Prevacid and three less than Lexapro.

In fourth place during the first half of 2003 was Aventis Pharmaceuticals' non-sedating antihistamine, Allegra, followed by Lilly's new osteoporosis injectable, Forteo, in fifth position. Allegra promotion spiked upward in the second quarter, generating more contacts to PAR-Rx panelists than any products besides Lexapro and Prevacid.

Allegra's rival, Schering-Plough Corp.'s Clarinex, was one of two products to finish the second quarter in fourth place; GlaxoSmithKline's new antidiabetic agent, Avandamet tied with Allegra as the fourth most promoted brand.

Four products tied to be the fifth most promoted brand, according to the PAR-Report: Astelin from MedPointe Inc., Cardizem LA from BioVail Pharmaceuticals, Emend from Merck & Co. Inc. and Wyeth's Protonix.
