Survey Reveals Managed Care Pharmacists Earned Average Salary of Between $100,000-$109,999 in 2004, Cognet-X Inc. Reports

FEASTERVILLE, Pa.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--Aug. 23, 2005--Pharmacists working within the managed care sector earned an average salary of between $100,000-$109,999 in 2004, according to Cognet-X Inc.'s 2005 Managed Care Pharmacist Salary Survey. Nearly 90% of those polled also received bonuses.

More than 200 pharmacists from 43 states, the District of Columbia and U.S. territories participated in the Internet survey conducted this spring, providing the most current and comprehensive information available about compensation received by pharmacists who work in managed care.

In addition to salary and bonus, participants were queried about their benefits, reporting structure, professional memberships, continuing education, work environment, salary/bonus satisfaction, and more.

The average age range of pharmacists surveyed was 40-44 years, with the largest group of respondents reporting their title as "pharmacy director." Approximately 60% of all respondents were employed by managed care organizations, 40% by PBMs.

Nearly one-half of those surveyed had worked in managed care for 9 or more years, and 70% reported having completed some type of graduate education.

More than 55% of all respondents indicated that they were members of their organization's P&T Committee, the decision-making body that evaluates prescription drug safety and efficacy before recommending which therapies should be included in a managed care organization's formulary.

Furthermore, of those who were P&T committee members, nearly a third were either chair or co-chair - making them highly influential pharmacy executives.
