GlaxoSmithKline Best Meet Managed Care Pharmacy Executives' Needs, Cognet-X Inc. Reports

FEASTERVILLE, Pa.--(BUSINESS WIRE)--May 31, 2006--In the first quarter of 2006, influential managed care pharmacy directors ranked GlaxoSmithKline best at meeting their overall needs, Cognet-X Inc. reported today. This marked the first time in the 5-year history of Cognet-X's PAR-Rx (Promotional Assessment Research) Report(TM) that GlaxoSmithKline garnered the top honor.

GSK finished in the top 5 corporations in the Overall Needs category of the twice-annual corporate assessments during nine of the 10 assessment periods since the PAR-Rx Report began in January 2001. In 3Q 05, the corporation placed third.

Interestingly, GlaxoSmithKline drew its greatest praise from PAR-Rx panelists at mid-size managed care organizations, while some other top 5-ranked corporations received their best support from large managed care organizations and pharmacy benefit management companies.

The PAR-Rx Report assessment methodology includes Cognet-X's proprietary Scale of Influence model, which weights panelists' rankings by the influence their organization has in the managed care marketplace. This is in addition to panelists ranking the five corporations that "best" or "least" met their needs in a given assessment category.

"The SOI methodology allows us to provide clients with a greater granularity of information and insight," said Cognet-X Chief Strategist Bryna Elder-Munro.

The panelists who ranked GSK #1 Best most often cited the relationship they have with the corporation's account personnel and its commitment to partnership.

Noted Elder-Munro: "Panelists feel GSK tries to keep them up to date on key clinical results that will eventually impact their bottom lines. Pharmacy executives, particularly those at plans with more limited internal resources than national organizations, truly appreciate that foresight."

"Solid clinical and account management support, excellent follow-through (and) a solid commitment to managed care," said one panelist. "They're consistently proactive in sharing clinical data very early in drug development/marketing processes."

In addition to GlaxoSmithKline's climb to first place, TAP Pharmaceuticals Inc., Johnson & Johnson and Bayer Corp. posted strong increases in ranking in the 1Q 06 Overall Needs category.

TAP placed sixth, up from 12th in 3Q 05. PAR-Rx panelists commented on the company's helpful account managers and its contracting strategy.

J&J finished seventh, up the previous assessment period, when it tied with Bayer Corp. for 21st place. This was the first time in the 5-year history of the PAR-Rx Report that J&J ranked above 15th.

It is worth noting that all six panelists who gave J&J a #1 Best ranking cited the corporation's willingness to partner and the relationship J&J is building with their organization.

"It's because of the rep relationship, pull-through (programs) and contracting," said one pharmacy director from a major national managed care organization.

Bayer's position rose to 10th in 1Q 06, driven by panelists' appreciation for Bayer Diagnostics' strategy for its diabetes product line. In addition, panelists mentioned the company's approval for Nexavar, one of only a handful of prescription drugs approved to treat advanced renal cell carcinoma, the most common form of kidney cancer.

The top 10 corporations in the 1Q 06 Overall Needs category:

1. GlaxoSmithKline

4. Abbott Laboratories

5. Novo Nordisk Pharmaceuticals

6. TAP Pharmaceuticals Inc.
